Brilliant article from a frustrated tenant with regards to walking watches and the crippling costs these entail. I have written before about my frustration with these as I think they can cause more problems they they can solve. The costs can end up being phenomenal and these are often passed onto the landlord or indirectly to the tenants.
I have been to buildings where these are just not necessary. Where kitchens are not on the external facades of buildings and there are AOV systems in place amongst many more safety features. I have also known of cases of members of a walking watch smoking and discarding of cigarette ends close to the perimeter of the building.
Sometimes we need to look at the risk versus benefit of these decisions as often the consequences (both financially and logistically) end up being worse than any benefit that was ever available.
There are better, safer, cheaper and much more tenant friendly options available than walking watches.
