This fire safety audit in York was prompted following a small fire started by a discarded cigarette.
The fire may have started externally and spread inside which caused the smoke alarms to be triggered.
Fire safety does not stop at the exit doors to your building. Keeping vigilant around the external perimeter of the building is important to ensure accidental fires do not start and the chances of an accidental arson attack is reduced.
Discarded cigarettes can smoulder for hours before ignition. Always remember to make regular checks outside your building and keep combustible materials separated from potential ignition sources at all times.
