When carrying out a fire risk assessment, it’s really important to look at the compartmentation within a building. That means looking above ceiling tiles and into voids wherever possible. This gives you a real sense of how and where the building is compartmentalised and looking at areas where a fire could spread undetected. Fire risk assessments often ask for a full compartmentalisation survey to be carried out. This is often appropriate but sometimes can be avoided when we sample these areas during an assessment, obviously depending on the type of building, usage and persons at risk.
