Properties being valued at £0 due to cladding. This article talks about ‘mortgage prisoners’ who bought in good faith but now can’t sell a property they are heavily mortgaged with. I think banks also need to take some responsibility here. They lent the money on the same condition the building is now and through no fault of their own residents are finding they can’t sell their flat. It’s due to advice note 14, cladding, wooden balconies etc. The word mortgage actually derives from a French word meaning ‘debt till death’, well the banks are certainly not helping their residents. Anyone stuck in such a flat please drop me a line, we can carry out a life safety fire risk assessment and could potentially help you here with a range of solutions. We are on your side during these difficult and uncertain fire safety times. Info@whalefire.co.uk https://lnkd.in/gfTxvqK
Flats being valued at £0 by valuers after official fire safety guidance
This awful fire in Bolton is troubling in so many ways, the fire safety failures and history of the building, the failure of the fire alarm system and sheer speed the fire spread through the building. I will keep a close eye on developments here. Thankfully there were no fatalities but it is shocking that a fire can start and reach that point so quickly before fire service intervention. I think an open mind is required here before any sort of judgement but I’m sure everybody will agree that that just should not be possible in a building of that usage.

Lots of issues within the fire safety industry currently with fires involving wooden balconies, cladding and an ever increasing risk of external fire spread. This needs to be taken into account within a fire risk assessment and consideration given to how a fire that starts internally could potentially spread to the outside of the building and what impacts that may have on your evacuation plans and other fire precautions.
